Oregano can do so much more than add a little zing to pizza. It’s a powerful antioxidant that packs antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral properties into every little green flake.
It’s even shown promise in the battle against cancer — and the latest research shows it could be an especially potent weapon in the war against prostate cancer.
The secret is a compound called carvacrol, which appears to flip the “off” switch on cancer cells. Shut them off, and they die. And when they die, you live.
Not bad for an herb you can grow on your windowsill.
In a series of tests at a Long Island University lab, researchers tried different concentrations of carvacrol against prostate cancer cells over different periods of time — 24 hours, 48 hours, and 96 hours.
Cancer cells died in just about every timeframe — but that last window, 96 hours, killed close to 100 percent of the cancer calls.
The study is continuing right now, as I write this, and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it for you and letting you know what progress the researchers make.
But that’s not the only way oregano can help you. That’s not even the only way it can support your prostate, because I’ve had tremendous success using this safe herbal remedy to treat prostatitis.
Remember those antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral properties I mentioned earlier? Prostatitis can actually be caused by a fungus, a bacteria, or a virus — which makes oregano a one-stop shop for curing the condition.
Just one thing to bear in mind here: The best way to get your oregano isn’t from a daily slice of pizza. In fact, that’s probably the worst possible way you could get this stuff.
I recommend oregano oil extract, 500 mg four times a day for acute prostatitis or twice a day for chronic problems.
