Lose weight and keep it off with Mediterranean snacks

Losing weight is only half the battle.

If you’ve ever had to claw your way through a diet… if you’ve ever had to fight tooth and nail for every ounce you’ve lost… the last thing you want is for the weight to come back.

Yet too often, all that hard work gets tossed out because most people who shed a little fat eventually see it return.

Sometimes, you gain back more than you’ve lost!

If you’ve been locked in that battle, new research spots a simple way to help make sure you keep the weight off.

And if you like hummus, you’re going to love this one.

This tasty treat is made from chickpeas, which are part of a class of foods known as “pulses.” Eating them daily could help make sure that lost weight never finds its way back to you.

In the study, folks who added only 4.5 ounces of pulses to their diet daily and made no other changes at all lost about half a pound over six months.

I know that doesn’t sound impressive. It’s not – the real reason this is important is WHY it worked, and it’s because the same team behind the new study also found that pulses, even in those low amounts, make you feel 31 percent fuller.

That means you’re less tempted to snack, cheat and eat your way to weight gain – and if you’ve already lost some weight, adding pulses to your daily routine could help you keep steady and make sure it doesn’t come back.

You’re not limited to hummus, either, although it’s certainly a tasty way to get your pulses along with some heart-healthy olive oil. Along with chickpeas (which are also sold as “garbanzo beans”), other pulses include beans, peas, and lentils – all of which are low in fat, high in protein, and packed with fiber.

They’re also bursting with great flavor, if you know how to bring them out. Instead of serving them on their own – which is why some people don’t like them – add some lemon or garlic (or both).

You can find plenty of other recipes online that’ll transform ho-hum lentils into a side dish that’ll have everyone in the house begging for seconds.

Be sure to make extra.

Of course, these are the same foods that are at the heart of the very lifestyle I recommend to friends and patients alike, and even follow myself.

The Mediterranean diet is perfect not only for weight loss, but also helping to keep it off. Unlike other diets, it contains so much variety you’ll never get bored with it.

In addition to keeping your waistline trim, this healthy lifestyle is also proven to slash the risk of heart attack and more.
