When it comes down to it, it’s your basic ability to THINK in every sense of the word.
As you get older, executive function is often one of the first things to go south.
When it slips too far, you could plunge into cognitive decline and other problems, even dementia.
But today I’ve got the study that changes everything.
It reveals the one nutrient that can REVERSE the slide that makes executive function such a struggle.
And the answer is in the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil.
Close to 1,200 volunteers in the Boston area had their blood levels of fatty acids checked and then were given cognitive tests over two years.
Now, as I mentioned, most people lose some executive function over the years.
But you don’t have to be “most people,” because the study finds that folks with higher blood levels of omega-3 fatty acids do BETTER on tests of that critical function.
It’s as if these fatty acids slow the aging process, keeping your brain young so your mind and memory stay sharp and focused.
While omega-3s can help, another kind of fatty acid can hurt. Too much omega-6 can trigger inflammation, and the study finds that can lead to DROPS in executive function.
And folks who had high levels of the omega-6 fatty acid had a higher risk of cognitive decline.
So take two steps here.
Avoid junk and processed foods, which contain high levels of omega-6.
And if you don’t have plenty of omega-3 rich seafood in your diet, go fishing for a supplement.
