chronic pain

  1. Chronic pain strikes 50 million Americans

    END chronic pain… WITHOUT drugs!

It’s the national epidemic that gets almost NO attention.

It’s THREE TIMES more common than heart disease and nearly TWICE as common as diabetes.

Yet mainstream doctors still DON’T understand it… DON’T know how to treat it… and often make it WORSE!

Well, friend, if you’re struggling with chronic pain, I’ll give you what your own doc won’t – or CAN’T – in just a moment.

But first, I want you to know that you’re hardly alone. You’ve got enough company to start your own nation!

Staggering new numbers from the CDC reveal how 50 million Americans are battling chronic pain.

These aren’t just the occasional aches and pains that come and go. And they’re not the bumps and bruises we all get every now and again.

These are people suffering from constant recurring battles with agony – enough to change or cancel plans and ruin what should be some of life’s sweetest moments.

Nearly half of these folks are struggling with the worst of it, the “high-impact” chronic pain that can lead directly to disability.

As bad as it is, there’s something even worse, and it’s NOT reflected in the new numbers from the CDC.

    It’s the treatments!

Many docs start with NSAIDs, including over-the-counter drugs like ibuprofen (a.k.a. Advil and Motrin), which can lead to stomach problems, even with short-term use.

Prescription drugs come with even bigger risks, especially the opioid drugs that have been sending Americans into a nightmare spiral of addiction and death.

Then, there are the steroid shots that can wreck your immune system and leave your bone thin and weak.

And when all else fails, they might send you in for surgery for a condition such as back, hip, or knee pain – operations that can lead to infection and other problems and often DON’T ease the pain, at least not by much.

It’s so bad that many patients have simply given up. They think they have to ACCEPT the pain and LIVE with it, even if that means giving up the activities they love, from going out and playing tennis to horsing around with the grandkids.

I’m here today with another way.

For common conditions including back and knee pain, many patients get REAL and LASTING relief with the following four non-drug therapies:

#1 chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation, acupuncture, and massage,

#2 natural inflammation-fighters, such as turmeric and topical MSM,

    #3 cold laser therapy, and

#4 holistic treatments that involve injecting your own stem cells back into your body to fight injury and inflammation and stimulate healing (for the toughest forms of chronic pain).

I offer all of these treatments and more here at the Stengler Center for Integrative Medicine. Not in the San Diego area? I can also offer advice on natural pain relief by phone.

  2. Chronic pain responds to nondrug therapies

    All-natural pain-fighters finally get mainstream thumbs-up

It's like trusting an arsonist to put out a fire!

The medical mainstream CREATED the opioid epidemic that's led to misery, pain, and death -- and now, they claim they can solve it.

And you're not going to believe what they have in mind.

The very same natural therapies they've rejected... time-tested treatments that WORK without risk... are now the up-and-coming "next big thing."

This isn't just like trusting that arsonist to put out a fire. It's like trusting an arsonist to put out a fire after the house has already burned down because he stopped you from calling the fire department.

A long-overdue study FINALLY backs many of the pain-fighting treatments you've read about right here in House Calls over the years, including acupuncture, massage, therapeutic stretching, chiropractic, and more.

But what really gets me angry over this study is not just that it comes too late for all those who've been hurt or killed by the overuse of opioid drugs.

It's that it's NOT a new study at all.

It's an analysis of old research going back nearly 50 years.

These studies have been published in leading medical journals, available for everyone to see... yet they've been ignored in favor of Big Pharma's pill-pushing agenda.

The study in Mayo Clinic Proceedings finds that acupuncture can help fight common back pain as well as osteoarthritis of the knees -- two of the leading conditions that lead to drug use.

Tai chi, a gentle martial art, can also help fight knee pain, while massage therapy can ease chronic neck pain

And if you've got headaches, including migraines, you don't need yet another pill -- just try basic relaxation techniques instead.

The study even finds at least some evidence for chiropractic and osteopathic spinal manipulation -- treatments that have especially rankled mainstream medicine over the years.

But it's not because they don't work.

It's because docs don't like having competition!

So if you're among the 100 million Americans battling chronic pain and the millions more who have more occasional pain problems, it's time for a "new" approach... and it's the OLD one that was rejected by mainstream medicine.

Along with acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, and other nondrug therapies, natural anti-inflammatories such as topical MSM and curcumin supplements can help ease pain without the risk of medication.

    Don't stop there.

More cutting-edge therapies such as cold laser and platelet-rich plasma can also help fight pain and heal injuries -- but you won't find them at a mainstream medical office.

Not yet. At the current pace, you can expect to see them in, oh, about 50 years.

So seek the advice of a skilled holistic medical doctor.

If you're in the San Diego area, I offer those treatments right here at the Stengler Center. Contact my clinic for more information or to make an appointment.

  3. Chronic pain patients often overdose

Chronic pain often leads to painkillers, with nearly half of all patients knowingly overdosing in hopes of getting some relief.
  4. Lack of sleep can worsen chronic pain

Pain patients who can't sleep get less activity, which worsens the pain so they sleep even less. Here's how you can break out of this cycle.
  5. Prescription painkillers increase heart risk

Common NSAID painkillers can increase the risk of heart attack and death, according to a new study.
  6. 20 million seniors fighting pain, find natural pain relievers now

New numbers show that close to 20 million American seniors are battling chronic pain. You don't have to be one of them.
  7. Common drugs lead to deadly addiction

Prescription meds such as the opioid painkillers commonly given to seniors kill more Americans than illegal drugs.
  8. Ending the pain mystery

British researchers recruited 80 patients with an average age of 50 who had made at least eight trips to the doctor over the past year for conditions that included chronic pain, fatigue, and/or emotional problems. Many of these patients were in so much pain they had trouble completing everyday tasks, had problems at work, or even disability.
  9. Turning gold into lead

Now, researchers have found a new way to show what's a stake when bellies get big and knees buckle under the weight: lost years, even if you happen to be using them while you're losing them.
  10. Some bad meds just won't go away

Tricyclic antidepressants are so awful they're not even used for depression anymore--but millions of people still take them anyway, because they're commonly used off-label to treat chronic pain.
  11. Mental problems cause physical pain

We already know how low moods can lead to high pain... and now, a new study shows how it happens.
  12. Stay young by fighting pain

The quickest route to old age is along the express lanes of chronic pain.
