1. Glaucoma on the rise

    WARNING: More Americans are getting glaucoma

    It's one of the most common causes of vision loss on the entire planet... one that hits seniors especially hard.

    And in most cases, it's COMPLETELY avoidable!

    But not enough of us are doing our part to avoid glaucoma, because new numbers show the rate of this disease is skyrocketing.

    In the coming years, there are going to be 1 MILLION new cases in the United States alone -- a jump from the estimated 3 million who have it today.

    And all of those new cases are going to appear in a little more than a decade.

    Many of the folks who get the condition won't even know they have it -- not at first, anyway. Some of them are no doubt in the early stages of it right now and don't realize it.

    By the time they find out, it could be far too late to do much about it.

    They can expect the condition to ultimately steal up to 40 percent of their vision, starting around the edges.

    Eventually, it feels like you're looking at the world through a tunnel.

    So, keep your eyes on this page, because I'm about to share with you three quick tips that can not only prevent glaucoma, but STOP or even REVERSE the condition if you do get it.

    First, get regular vision exams.

    I know they're a hassle, especially if they mean shelling out extra cash for a new set of glasses. Or, maybe you have perfect vision and don't think it's worth your time.

    But there's one key part of that exam -- where they fire that little puff of air at your eyes -- that's important no matter how good your eyesight is, because that's when they check for glaucoma.

    Second, eat plenty of leafy greens. They're packed in vision-protecting nitrate, which can help relax the blood vessels and keep your circulation in good shape.

    That's great for your overall health, and especially important to your eyes: A study last year found a nitrate-rich diet will cut your risk of glaucoma by 21 percent.

    And third, if you do get this condition, don't give up.

    If you catch it early, you can beat it -- often without drugs. Natural therapies can help reduce the pressure in the eye that marks the disease. Some of your best options are the basics: vitamin C, ginkgo biloba, and magnesium.

    Many of the best sources of magnesium are also loaded with that nitrate I just mentioned -- so, eat plenty of spinach, kale, and Swiss chard, and you might never have to worry about glaucoma.

    According to a long-term study involving over 100,000 people, there’s a simple step you can take today to prevent this vision-robbing disease.

    All you have to do is eat your greens.

    They’re the best natural sources of nitrate around, and nitrate helps with the flow of blood in and out of your eye. That way, you don’t get the increased pressure and buildup of fluid that leads to glaucoma.

    If you keep your nitrate levels nice and high by eating leafy greens, your risk of glaucoma drops by 21 percent, according to the study.

    Magnesium will also help with that – and you can protect two eyes with just one superfood, because greens like kale, spinach and Swiss chard are rich in BOTH nitrates and magnesium.

    While glaucoma can often be treated when it’s caught early, in many cases it’s not caught early enough – and that’s how it progresses to blindness. With 3 million Americans already facing the disease and the number expected to jump by 50 percent over the next 15 years, you don’t want to leave your risk to chance.

    If you wear glasses, you probably already have eye exams at least somewhat regularly. Make sure you return for your annual checkup and don’t skip appointments.

    If you don’t currently wear glasses, you may have never had an exam – especially if you have perfect vision. But your vision won’t be perfect much longer if you end up with glaucoma, so be sure to have your eyes checked annually, too.
