Beat depression the natural way

Classic causes of depression case are often kicked off by some emotional trauma or metabolic imbalances. But these days, millions of people walk around feeling down without ever knowing why.

Their doctors can't be bothered to figure out the cause, and many of them don't even know how to begin looking for it. So they prescribe an antidepressant and move on to the next patient.

But there are always causes of depression -- and in many cases, especially in younger patients, it's a result of nutritional problems. People spend so much time eating junk that they simply fail to get the essential nutrients the brain needs for proper mood function.

That's why one of the first things I ask a depressed patient is what they've been eating -- and as they get off the processed junk and other low-nutrition garbage and onto a diet of whole, fresh foods, their depression often eases or even disappears completely.

In addition, I often recommend supplements to help the body catch up on what was missing from the diet, such as the omega-3 fatty acids that have proven time and again to ease or cure the causes of depression as well as the B vitamins that are so essential to mood.

But diet isn't the only trigger for depression. Mood disorders can also be caused or worsened by food allergies, hormonal problems, chronic illness, stress, and even low levels of sunlight (along with low levels of the vitamin D you get from that lack of sunlight).

Clearly, there are a lot of different possible causes of depression. And that means there's no perfect one-size-fits-all solution, either -- so finding your own cure could take a little bit of detective work.
