Vitamin D can help you live longer and better

We don't just need the sun to keep the Earth at the right temperature for life and for plants to grow. We need sun because it stimulates the production of vitamin D in our bodies.

Now, new research confirms that D isn't just critical to life itself. It's also essential to the quality of that life -- and the lower your levels, the lower that quality.

Specifically, low D levels will increase your risk of mobility and mood problems, the study of nearly 1,500 Canadians finds.

The higher your D levels, on the other hand, and the lower your risk of those physical and mental problems -- and the more likely you'll remain both happy and independent, according to the study in Quality of Life Research.

D is also essential to your immune system, heart, brain, bones and more. And as I'm going to tell you on Sunday, it could even help keep you alive...literally (watch your inbox for that).

It's hard to tell exactly how much D you're getting from sun -- and of course, too much sun exposure can lead to sunburn and even skin cancer.

Call it too much of a good thing.

So practice sun safety, and then take a quality supplement to make sure you're getting all you need. I recommend between 2,000 IUs and 5,000 IUs of quality D3 per day from a maker you trust.
