telomeres

  1. How fish oil can reverse aging

Beat and reverse the aging in one easy step

I don't know about you, but when my birthday rolls around I feel like hiding the calendar.

It's not the calendar's fault we get older, of course. It's time itself -- more specifically, how time ages our bodies from the inside.

And while most people think of aging as an unstoppable and irreversible process, I'm here to tell you that's flat-out wrong -- because there's something you can do right now to slow, stop and maybe even reverse aging inside your body.

It's like adding pages to your calendar.

Ready for the best part of all? If you've been following my advice, you don't have to change a thing -- because the key to this life-extending wonder is locked inside of the fish oil that I hope you're already taking.

The omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil work to protect your telomeres, which are the little DNA caps that sit on the ends of your chromosomes. As you get older and your cells reproduce, those telomeres get a little shorter.

As they get shorter, the list of risks you face gets longer -- including all the conditions we typically associate with aging: heart problems, dementia and even the worst aging "condition" of all, death.

In one new study, seniors were given daily supplements of either DHA or EPA -- the two main fatty acids found in fish oil -- or supplements of the omega-6 fatty acid linoleic acid.

The seniors on the omega-6 supplements saw their telomeres continue to shrink at the expected rate over the six-month study. But the seniors given either omega-3 fatty acid saw their telomere shrink rate slow to a crawl.

That's a sign that aging itself has been slowed to a crawl, a sign of reverse aging.

I'd say so far, so good -- but this gets even better, because the new study was on seniors already suffering from the early signs of mild cognitive impairment.

If you start sooner, before those problems set in, you could see an even bigger benefit. In fact, if you start right now, a fish oil supplement with both DHA and EPA likely won't just slow your telomere shrink.

It could actually reverse aging, and maybe even help your telomeres to grow longer, according to a remarkable study I told you about last year.

I'm not done with fighting age yet -- keep reading for an easy way to beat the oxidative stress that strikes as you get older.

  2. Essential fatty acids cause telomeres to grow

They say you can't turn back the clock. I'm not so sure.

You see, researchers may have stumbled across the Fountain of Youth. Anti-aging scientists say that some of the most important cells in your body -- the ones that run your immune system -- could have their lives extended by something that millions of us already do every day, and that's toss back a little fish oil.

The cutting-edge study focused on how the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil affect immune cells. And what the researchers uncovered was stunning.

The fish oil essentially turned back the hands of time!

You see, immune cells are constantly replicating and then dying off. But each new generation of immune cells loses a little bit of the DNA at the tip of the chromosomes.

These little chromosome caps are called telomeres and they're at the heart of aging and all the diseases that can go with it. In fact, you could say that it's these shortening telomeres that are responsible for us getting old and ultimately for us dying.

For the study 106 overweight, but otherwise healthy, adults were given either 1.25 grams a day of omega-3 fatty acids, 2.5 grams a day of those same fatty acids, or a placebo.

Incredibly, the telomeres grew longer! The fish oil hadn't just stopped the chromosomes from getting shorter—it's as if it had reversed the hands of time.

Apparently the fish oil accomplishes this astonishing task by improving the balance between omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in the body. And, as a result, telomere-shrinking inflammation plummets between 10 and 12 percent.

Good health requires omega-3s and there's no reason to wait around for more research to climb aboard the fish-oil boat.

I recommend the delicious and healthy Mediterranean diet to naturally increase your omega-3 levels. And a quality fish oil supplement, from a manufacturer you trust, can help you raise your omega-3 levels without raising your mercury exposure.

  3. Endurance training can defeat aging

Endurance training isn't just healthy -- it can also help reduce the damage to your DNA that comes from aging.
  4. How fish oil can reverse aging

The omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil can stop one of the key markers of aging on the cellular level.
  5. When will it end?

What if you had an expiration date stamped somewhere on your body -- a little message that says exactly how much longer you might live? Would you even want to look at it? Would you let your family see it? Researchers say they've found just such a mark, hidden in your bloodstream -- and they'll read yours... for a price.
